Dear Colleagues,
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the annual
Tournament of Champions Marching Contest held at beautiful Standridge
Stadium in Carrollton. We feel that we offer a positive and constructive
experience for groups of all sizes in one of the state's finest marching
facilities. Standridge Stadium is a perfect venue for our activity with
easy access from anywhere in the metroplex, as well as new artificial
turf in 2005.
The contest date is
Saturday, September 27, 2008 and the deadline for
entries is
Friday, September 12, 2008. This is an outstanding contest
that has traditionally attracted some of Texas' top groups and has grown
each year. The competition field is limited to 28 bands on a first come,
first serve basis.
The first 28 entries received with payment are
guaranteed performance slots in the 2008 contest.
The staff, parents, and students at Newman Smith are committed to making
this the most accessible, organized, and enjoyable contest in the metroplex,
as well as a useful and rewarding educational experience. We will be
utilizing some of the best adjudicators available from across the state
and nation to give your group superb feedback and insight into your
competitive show. In addition, our caption scoring system allows a
consistent and realistic evaluation of your marching, music, general
effect, percussion, and color guard/auxiliary. All groups will be placed
in a class according to number of wind players performing and the top 10
scoring groups from the preliminary competition will proceed to the evening's
finals competition (bands that do not rank in the top 10 but are best in their
respective class will have the opportunity to perform in exhibition prior to
the finals). Trophies and/or plaques will be awarded for the following:
1st Division Rating
Division Champion
Finals 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th places
Finalist (5th through 10th place)
Outstanding Music, Marching, GE, Percussion, Color Guard/Auxiliary, Drum Major
